Case Study

ReVogue

Introduction

ReVogue is a mobile app I designed to promote sustainable fashion by helping users manage their wardrobes, donate unused clothing, and learn about ethical fashion practices. The mission of this individual project was to create an everyday-use app that prioritizes sustainability and ethical design while offering users a personalized and educational experience. By combining wardrobe management, donation features, and fashion education, ReVogue aims to empower users to make greener fashion choices and express their unique style.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was to design an app that:

  • Encourages sustainable fashion practices, such as donating unused clothing.
  • Provides a platform for users to exchange and mix clothing in a controlled environment.
  • Educates users on sustainable fashion and offers personalized fashion tips.
  • Balances functionality, accessibility, and a fashionable design aesthetic.
  • Appeals to a target audience of students and fashion enthusiasts interested in second-hand shopping.

Research & Discovery

The research phase involved a combination of desk and field research to understand the market, target audience, and sustainability trends in fashion.

Netnography Analysis

I analyzed user reviews and feedback on existing fashion apps to identify pain points and successful features.

Sustainable Business Model Canvas

Using this method, I defined the app’s key aspects, ensuring sustainability was at the core of the design.

Target Audience Definition

Through research, I identified the target audience as students and fashion enthusiasts interested in second-hand shopping and sustainable practices.

Feature Prioritization

Based on my research findings, I prioritized the app’s main features:

  1. Donation Tab — A feature to donate unused clothing.
  2. Listings' Feed — A platform for users to exchange and mix clothing.
  3. User Profile — Personalized profiles to track donations and exchanges.
  4. Fashion Blog — Educational content on sustainable fashion and styling tips.

UX Strategy & Mapping

My UX strategy focused on creating a seamless and enjoyable experience while promoting sustainability. Key elements included:

  • User Flows — I mapped out tasks such as donating clothing, browsing listings, and accessing educational content.
  • Personalization — I designed the app to allow users to customize their experience to reflect their fashion tastes.
  • Accessibility — I ensured the app was easy to use for a diverse audience.

I created user flows and wireframes to visualize the app’s structure and functionality.

Ideation & Concept Development

The ideation phase involved brainstorming features and functionalities that would address user needs and promote sustainability. Key features I introduced included:

  • Donation Tab — A simple and intuitive way for users to donate unused clothing.
  • Listings' Feed — A curated feed of clothing listings for users to browse and exchange.
  • User Profile — Personalized profiles to track donations, exchanges, and fashion preferences.
  • Fashion Blog — Educational content on sustainable fashion, styling tips, and ethical brands.

I sketched initial ideas and transformed them into low-fidelity wireframes, which I tested and refined based on user feedback.

Testing & Validation

I conducted multiple rounds of testing to validate my designs:

Usability Testing

Users were given tasks to complete, such as donating an item or browsing the listings' feed. Feedback was used to refine the app’s functionality and user experience.

Affinity Testing

This method helped me ensure the app’s design communicated the brand’s values of sustainability and fashion.

Iterative Design

Testing revealed challenges in structuring the app’s functionality and balancing accessibility with a fashionable design. I iterated on the design to address these issues.

  3. Personalization — Balancing personalization with accessibility was a key learning experience.
  4. Digital Marketing — I gained insights into creating promotional social media materials to support the app’s launch.

Reflection

This individual project was a rewarding experience that allowed me to combine my passion for design with sustainability. By creating an app that promotes sustainable fashion practices, I helped empower users to make greener choices while expressing their unique style. The process reinforced the importance of research, iteration, and user-centered design in creating impactful digital products.
